Year 1 Marine Park

Year 1 had a fantastic day at Marine Park. We had fun sketching the bandstand, riding on the train, playing in the park and enjoying a picnic. Everybody was delighted to have an ice-cream from Minchellas to cool us down!

Yesterday the Year 1 children had a fantastic time at the cinema. They were so excited as they made their way into the screen to receive their extra special reward. Once they were all settled they were given their snack-boxes to enjoy along with the film. The children laughed all the through the movie and even pretended they were Captain Underpants all the way back to school.

Year 1 Liturgy

On Friday the 9th June Year 1 Presented a Liturgy to the school and their parents about the topic ‘Holidays and Holy days’. We thought about our own memories of holidays with family members, talked about how we might prepare for these and drew pictures of our personal experiences. We also talked about the ways that Christians celebrate Holy days such as Christmas and Easter and considered how the Holy Spirit changed the lives of the apostles at Pentecost. We loved acting out the events of Pentecost and learning new hymns about the Holy Spirit.

Dwayne the Drain

Last week Northumbria water came to visit KS1 to tell us all about how to keep our drains clean. They gave a pantomime all about Dwayne the drain and told  us what we should and should not put down our drain. We sang songs and had lots of fun, thank you to Northumbria water.

Year 1 children visited Bolden Environmental Centre on Friday 17th March. The children listened to the story Zog by Julia Donaldson and enjoyed activities to accompany. They toasted marshmallows on the camp fire, collected magic stars, played hide and seek and made fire dragons in the craft area of the classroom.

We all had lots of fun and it was a great end to our reading week.

School Council Elections

Over the past few weeks, the children at St. Mary’s have been taking part in elections for the school council. Children from each year group from Years 1 to 6 took part. Children nominated themselves and had to deliver speeches to their class to try and win their votes. The children then voted for the people that they thought would be the best school councillors. After the votes were counted the children were told who had been elected. Here are our new school councillors. We will keep you updated about our projects throughout the year!  IMG_1086IMG_1087 IMG_1088 IMG_1089 IMG_1090 IMG_1091 IMG_1092 IMG_1093 IMG_1094 IMG_1095 IMG_1096 IMG_1097 IMG_1098 IMG_1099 IMG_1100 IMG_1101 IMG_1102 IMG_1103 IMG_1105 IMG_1106 IMG_1107 IMG_1108 IMG_2093 IMG_2094 IMG_2095 IMG_2096 IMG_2097
