Today Y4 visited The Angel Of the North – to support learning about ‘Our Local Area’.
We learned lots of interesting facts. Did you know it is one of the most viewed sculptures in the world, with an estimate of 1 person per second?(33 million views per year)
We tried to measure the feet but they are so big. We took lots of photos and hope you enjoy looking at them.
Once back at school we made some collages of the Angel.
Aren’t they beautiful?
This week in year 4 the children presented a very prayerful liturgy. They explained about how God makes everything grow. Together we sang ‘This Little Light of Mine’ and discussed how we all have lovely qualities; given by God. During reflection we passed a heart shaped pebble around the circle and thought about everything we are thankful for.
We ended by singing ‘If I were a butterfly’. This was chosen so we could give thanks to God for making us who we are.
The children’s comments included; ‘I know that God is always with us’.
Thank you Year 4.
Today we had some professional coaching to learn some amazing skipping techniques. We will be practising really hard so that we can do well in the competition, which is in the spring term. We had lots of fun but it was really hard work. Well done Y4!
Today in French Year 4 have been singing a French song called ‘Je me leve’.
We decided to sing it as ‘rock stars’. We had lots of fun!
Today in our liturgy, we sat in a circle and lit a candle. The children shared a reading from the Letter of Saint Paul which tells us how Jesus asks us never to give up and to always try to keep doing what he asked. They also read a poem from the book of praise which encouraged us to be joyful for all of the wonderful things we have.
Our Gospel reading came from the Gospel of Saint Mark which tells us not to be afraid and that Jesus will always be with us. The children selected two very joyful hymns; ‘He’s Got The Whole World in His Hands’ and ‘Sing it in the Valleys’ which they all sang beautifully.
At the end the children shared their thoughts about how the liturgy made them feel.
A beautiful, spiritual liturgy, well done Year 4!
In RE this week we have been learning about the story of Jacob. Within small groups, we re-enacted the roles of Isaac and Rebecca and their two sons Esau and Jacob to develop our understanding of the story and the characters through role- play.
This week our class liturgy was planned, organised and presented by some of the children. We opened the liturgy with one of our favourite hymns, ‘Gather’. We sat in a circle and the children sang and performed the actions beautifully. We listened to the story of Abraham from the book of Genesis, which is linked to our RE topic called ‘People’. The children took time for reflection as they passed a candle around the circle. For our mission we decided to ‘greet others with a smile’ and it is lovely to see the children carrying this out successfully.
Thank you Mrs Tumelty for the virtual reality headsets. Y4 had so much fun experiencing virtual reality.
Some of us went off to Egypt and saw the ancient pyramids, some went to London and New York and some even went to China, all within one ICT lesson!
The quickest way to travel!
