In R.E. this week, we have began to look at some of life’s BIG questions. Today, our question is ‘What is truth?’.
We looked at the ancient question, ‘If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one around to hear it, does it make a sound?’
We discussed this at great length and created for and against arguments in our groups. We then took an independent look at the question and spilt the class into those who believed the statement was true, and those who thought it was false.
We then took a deeper look into the question, ‘If something can’t be proven, can it be true?’ and completed a questionnaire.
Every Friday, our Year 6 class are going to help their friends in Year 2 to complete challenges on their Times Table Rockstars account. Both classes have been working really well together and have been supporting each other in their maths – keep rocking!
This afternoon we were joined by Newcastle University who had prepared a fun-filled afternoon focusing on the circulatory system. We completed ECG tests and used stethoscopes to monitor the beating of our hearts before and after exercise. We also got to take a closer look at a human heart and how it really works.
Today, our Year 6 class participated in Barnabas Day. We took part in a very special collective worship this morning. Later in the day, during our class session, we focused on the themes of sharing and equality. This was a great opportunity to explore new parables, some of which we even got to act out!
Today, our Year 6 class competed in a hockey tournament against 12 other schools in our area. After a long afternoon of playing many games, our team successfully made it to the finals. Our finishing team were awarded Silver Medals, and we all will receive a certificate for our outstanding effort! Well done Year 6!
Today St Mary’s welcomed the new reception class into our family. Thank you to all of the Year 6 pupils who looked after and supported their ‘buddies’ on their special occasion. The children from reception have formed such positive relationships with their ‘buddies’ and it is lovely to see. We would like to say a huge thank you to the families of the reception pupils for all of their support today. We hope you enjoyed finding out about what the boys and girls enjoy doing and what they would like to be when they grow up.
Congratulations to our new head boy, Luca, and our new head girl, Gracie! You will be fantastic representatives for our school and your fellow students! All of our Year 6’s who made speeches today did an absolutely AMAZING job and should be very, very proud of themselves!
Another BIG congratulations to our new House Captains and Vice Captains, who made their speeches during pastoral care. Well done to everybody who took part in today’s celebrations! What a great way to end our week!
Today we gathered for our first class liturgy of Year 6. The children planned and delivered their worship. We enjoyed reflecting on the Word and are looking forward to the year ahead.
Year 6 took part in a number of team building activities and had go at orienteering in South Marine Park.
