Real life superheroes

Today we have been so lucky have Sergeant Lewis and PC Elstob visit our class to talk about their role and the responsibilities that they have as real life superheroes in our community. The children had the opportunity to try on the officers uniforms and be mini police themselves. The children had loads of questions to ask them about their jobs. We learnt that police aren’t just there to capture the bad guys, they are there to protect us and keep us safe.

Reception loved having their grown ups in school today for a shared reading afternoon. We loved showing how much we have improved with our reading skills. Mr sunshine even popped in to say hello. We can’t wait for another reading afternoon.

Dwayne the Drain

Last week Northumbria water came to visit KS1 to tell us all about how to keep our drains clean. They gave a pantomime all about Dwayne the drain and told  us what we should and should not put down our drain. We sang songs and had lots of fun, thank you to Northumbria water.

Dress as a character day

It’s the end of reading week and what fun it has been. From borrowing books from the library, to no pen day, to singing in front of the school, to making our own counting books, playing hide and seek with the Gruffalo and finally getting up as our favourite characters. What a week it has been! The love for reading is well and truly on the up. Thank you to Mrs Tumelty from all in reception for such a fun week.

Visit to West Boldon Lodge

Reception class went to Boldon Lodge as a part of reading week to hear the story of the Gruffalo. The children loved walking through the forest searching for acorns. They then has to find the pages of the story and sequence them in order. We shared the story as we sat around the camp and set out to make our own Gruffalo masks using natural materials from the forest. We loved making Gruffalo crumble and hiding in the dens from the Gruffalo. Reading week has brought such excitement. Thanks to Trent’s mam and Abbie and Chloe’s mam for joining us.

Welcome George!

As you all may have heard, Reception has a new student join their class this week. George crash landed into our classroom on Wednesday night and was keen to join our class the minute he landed. George needs some extra help with his writing and everyone in the class has been keen to help him out. We cannot wait to learn more with George. Don’t forget to say hi to him if you see him around school.

E- Safety awareness

In Reception we have been learning all about how to be safe on the internet. Smartie the penguin taught us some valuable lessons that everyone should listen to, regardless of our age.
