A visit to the farm Year 1
A visit to Earsdon Hill Farm
Today we visited a farm in Morpeth, Northumberland. The farm is an arable farm.
Growing crops is called arable farming. Some land is better for livestock farming and some is better for arable farming. It depends on the soil quality, the climate and the landscape.
The crops grown at Earsdon Hill include barley and wheat, which are used to make foods such as cereal, bread, pasta and even cookies.
The children had a lovely day exploring the framer’s fields and his pet goats. They took a closer look at a beehive and found out how bees help the farmer to pollinate his crops. They even got a taste of some of the delicious honey which the bees had produced.
Later we took a walk across the fields to the woods where we heard the story of The Bog Baby and used lots of natural materials to build a new den for the Bog Baby.
