Autumn themed play and pumpkins.
We have been exploring the seasons in Nursery and after the children brought in Autumn objects such as conkers, leaves, pine cones and acorns we have provided them with magnifying lenses to explore in the tuff spot. We have used conkers to roll in paint, leaves to make rubbings with wax crayons and autumn crowns and used various harvest vegetables from the season to cut up and print with. Everyone enjoyed going to Forest school and observing the changing colours of leaves; we even made bird feeders so that the birds have food as the weather gets colder. We were lucky enough that Matthew’s grandad donated some beautiful big pumpkins that he had grown in his allotment and the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring these in a sensory way, using utensils to scoop out the flesh and seeds. We made links to one of our class key texts ‘Pumpkin soup’ and all took turns cutting up the pumpkin, adding lentils and carrots and cooking it to make our very own pumpkin soup. We even made our own bread rolls to accompany this and dip in our soup. Mmmmmm!!!
