MADD STEM week.

On the week beginning15thMaythechildreninNurserytookpartinourschool MADDSTEM week.

We had a visit from Science Buddies to help us learn about bubbles and how they are made stronger by adding sugar to the soap solution. We learned that this actually makes the bubble stronger and less likely to pop. We dressed up in white Science coats and put on our safety glasses to mix the solution and even made some giant bubbles in the outdoor area. Afterwards we explored making bubble prints by adding paint to bubble mixture and blowing with straws.

For our Art task we used black and red paint to explore Banksy’s famous graffiti art style painting ‘Girl with a balloon’. We painted the girl’s figure and used red to create the heart shaped balloon. The children talked about how the painting made them feel, suggesting words like ‘sad’, ‘lonely’ and ‘happy because the red balloon is nice and colorful.’ We also used the medium of collage in art to explore our Maths investigation. We used shapes to create spiral collage pictures in the style of Matisse’s famous artwork of the snail and made a fabulous display in the Nursery to proudly show off our work.
