2024-2025
Welcome to our Year 1 page. The Year 1 teacher is Miss Mowbray who is supported by Mrs Foster. In Year 1, we enjoy working together and helping all of our friends. Please visit our page for regular updates and information.
Christmas Party – Rocking around the Christmas tree
Religious Education – Other Faith’s Week – Judaism
Year 1 have began to learn about Judaism today. They listened to the story of Abraham and were then shown the ‘Shield of Abraham’. We discussed how this was a shield of protection. The Jewish faith now use the ‘Star of David’ as their main religious symbol. The children each created their own ‘Star of David’ and added their families name onto the star for God to always protect them.
Religious Education
As part of our ‘Families’ topic, the children discovered what Jesus’ life is thought to have been like when he was a child. The children role played Jesus’ life as a child with his parent’s Mary and Joseph.
Geography – Our Local Area
Within Geography, we have been looking closely at our local area. The children have been able to identify physical and human geography, enjoyed a trip to the local park, used their map skills to identify local features e.g. metro line, activity centre and identified different places where people live e.g. flat, semi-detached house.
Design & Technology – Food Technology
Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed trying different fruits to decide what fruit they think would be best in a smoothie. They then planned the fruits they would like to put into their smoothie, prepare and cut the fruits, and finally making and tasting their smoothie. Most children thought they were delicious, although some thought they were a bit too sweet.
