Year 5 visit to Jarrow Hall

Today the children had an amazing time at Jarrow Hall where they learned all about Anglo-Saxon life. They started the morning learning about Anglo-Saxon farming and what the animals were used for. They were shocked that the Anglo-Saxons rarely ate meat and that the animals weren’t only used as a food source. They then had the chance to explore a replica Anglo-Saxon village. They listened to the story of ‘Beowulf’ which was told brilliantly by Catherine who was our guide and educator for the day. On the afternoon, the children were shown how clothing was made using the fleece from the sheep. They  even had opportunities to try weaving themselves! Finally, they found out about crime and punishment in Anglo-Saxon times.
